Media Invited to SRQHacks Hackathon




Education Foundation of Sarasota County hosts 2nd Annual Hackathon

 

Powered by the Education Foundation of Sarasota County, the region’s second annual student hackathon will be held October 13-15, 2017. The intense, three-day immersive experience will pair 100 students with over 60 mentors, forming teams that will work to “hack their education” by creating technological applications designed to advance student learning.

 

WHAT:           2nd Annual Hackathon: #SRQHacks Education

A weekend-long event connecting professionals from the technology, design and business fields with 13-18-year-old students. Ten student/mentor teams will create a mobile application and business plan focused on improving student learning that will be presented to a panel of judges in a Shark Tank style pitch.

 

WHEN:         Friday, October 13 - Sunday, October 15

                           Friday: 5pm-9pm (registration, team formation)

                          Saturday: 8am-8pm (team work day)

                          Sunday: 8am-2pm (pitch presentations at 12 noon)

 

WHERE:        Ringling College of Art & Design | Alfred R. Goldstein Library and Larry R. Thompson Academic Center

WHO:            Hosted by the Education Foundation of Sarasota County

Students represent 21 area schools including all Sarasota County public middle and high schools.

Panel of judges includes Dr. Todd Bowden (Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools), Douglas Cherry (Intellectual Patent Attorney at Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick LLP), Anne Essner (Board Member of Gulf Coast Community Foundation), Lisl Liang (CEO of SRQ Media), Anand Pallegar (CEO, dreamLarge), Jon Stuart (SCORE Mentor) and Judge Charles Williams (Chief Judge of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court).
